Federal vs Punjab Board: Which MCQs to Practise?

FBISE and BISE Punjab use different textbooks. Here is how to choose the right MCQ set for 9th, 10th, 1st Year and 2nd Year, and why it matters.

Students in Pakistan study for the same class under different boards, and the boards do not always use the same textbooks or chapter order. If you practise MCQs from the wrong board's books, you may waste time on topics your paper will not ask, or miss ones it will. This short guide explains how to choose.

Why the board matters

The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Punjab boards (BISE) follow their own textbooks and syllabi for 9th, 10th, 1st Year and 2nd Year. Chapter names, their order and sometimes the topics inside them differ. An MCQ that fits one book perfectly can be out of scope for the other.

How to choose your set

  1. Check your textbook cover. It names the board or textbook board that published it.
  2. Ask your teacher which syllabus your school follows if you are unsure.
  3. Pick the class and the board on Ansit.pk, and use that set for the whole year.

Can you use the other board's MCQs?

Yes, for revision, but with care. Many science concepts are the same in both books, so extra practice on the other board's chapter can still help. Treat it as a bonus, not your main source, and skip questions about topics that are not in your own book.

If you are also preparing for an entry test

Entry tests such as the MDCAT are written for students of all boards, so their syllabus is separate from your board's. Use your board's MCQs for school exams and the MDCAT MCQs for the test, and read the official syllabus to see how they overlap.

Make it a habit

Finish a chapter in class, practise its MCQs the same week, and review the ones you missed before the next class test. Our board exam objective tips and guide to studying with MCQs show how.
